Getting around Lagos
Whether you’re visiting Lagos for the first time or getting around every day, Met Road makes the city easy to move through. Lagos's Blue and Red Lines are the city's first electric railways — both fully cashless and part of the wider Cowry Card network that also covers BRT and ferries.
✈️ Arriving in Lagos
The easiest way in from the airport is usually a ride-hailing app (Uber, Bolt or a local equivalent) — fixed prices, no haggling, and ideal with luggage. Licensed airport taxis are also available; always agree the fare before you set off.
Fares
Distance-based and cashless. The Blue Line is roughly ₦200–750 per trip; the Red Line roughly ₦500–1,500. A 25% off-peak discount applies between 10:00 and 16:00, and under-5s ride free with a paying adult.
Operating hours
Blue Line runs Monday–Saturday, about 05:30–23:00 (limited Sunday service). Red Line runs Monday–Friday, about 06:00–21:00.
Tickets & payment
One card does it all: the Cowry Card (₦500–700) works on the Blue Line, Red Line, BRT buses and LAGFERRY. Buy and top up at any rail or BRT terminal.
Good to know
Marina to Mile 2 on the Blue Line takes 10–15 minutes versus 60–90 by road. Managed by LAMATA; the Phase 2 extensions to Okokomaiko and Marina are targeting 2027.
